Its finished! Didn't take me that long, a week? maybe less? I know i didn't work on it every day...

It turned out so cute! Unfortunately you still can't see the pretty pinkish color of the yarn.

I think it's going to be a tad big, and the yarn has a nice little stretch to it, so it won't be binding.

I used Red Heart's Soft Baby in "Powder Pink Twinkle" - It didn't even take a full 6 oz skein.

I found the free pattern at Bernat's website. I really hope Miss Rayven enjoys this hat! :)

Next up is learning to knit in the round...

Promised a pair of socks by 4/18 and of course a monster has to be completed too!

Rayven's Hat

Ok so it is most definitely not the best photo, but here is a preview of what I am currently working on.

Its a knit Jester Hat for my great-niece Rayven. She's around 6 months old.

The color of the yarn is a soft pink with some blues, yellows and pinks mixed throughout.

It reminds me of melted bubblegum ice cream :)

I should be done with it soon, and I'll post pics of the completed hat when I do.

I bought some small double pointed needles to try a mini-monster and some knit socks next. I want to purchase a cabling needle to try that too.

Something a little quick and a little different....

A washcloth! knitted following a pattern found here.

A little hard to see because I used some spare variegated yarn, but it has "stripes" in it. :)

Ok so this right here:

Is why I taught myself to knit... please ignore my very bad emroidery... I was in a hurry and trying to use a paper stencil... not the greatest, but the job is done!

I found this pattern for a yankees pillow, that called for intarsia stitches within the pillow, however, I was so crunched for time, that I altered the pattern to allow myself time to finish.

This pillow is for my dad and i did it to match the fleece blanket I made for him for his birthday. (Here's the blanket)

How it was made:

Front

CO 59 stitches.

Garter stitch first 4 rows.

K4 at beginning of each row, stockinette stitch 51 stitches, k4 at end of each row for 76 rows.

garter stitch last 4 rows.

Bind off, weave in ends.

Embroider front with any design you choose.

Back

CO 59 stitches.

Garter Stitch 84 rows.

Bind Off, weave in ends.

With right sides facing each other, sew closed on 3 sides.

Turn right side out, begin sewing closed the final side, leaving a small opening to stuff in your fiber filling. When filled to your liking, finish sewing shut. Tie off, and weave in ends.

Thats all I did. Simple, but pretty time consuming when you're teaching yourself to knit as you go along. :)

Wow, I can tell that already that its going to be a bit difficult for me to come up with cute rememberable phrases!

So my daughter, Rheanna, loves to get crafty with me... and I needed some "Girl Scout Attire" to do our local booth sales in. So we tye-dyed!

Whoah! Fleece Blankets!

I recently became interested in the no-sew fleece blankets! They are super easy and quick to throw together for a last minute gift! I'd say it took about 2 hours to complete a 1 yard blanket, from cutting to completion!

Babies love the feel of them, and they are super warm for any cold winter months too!

Below are a few of the ones I've thrown together and given as gifts.

Alley's Peace Signs:

Alley was born at the tail end of 2010, and I wanted to make her a fleece blanket - so her Grandma Sheree and my mom picked out this lovely 1 yard each combination of pink with brown peace signs and a solid brown back.

Austin's Grrrr-Animals:

Austin is my youngest Nephew on my side, He's almost 2 now and he's such a blanket baby! Loves them! I made him this 1 yard sized blanket for Christmas... it turns out that I guess he "borrowed" his older brother Zack's Buzz Lightyear one, and um, hasn't returned it! :)

Zack's Buzz Lightyear:

Zack is the oldest nephew on my side, he will be 4 this August! He just loves Buzz Lightyear and I was so stoked to be able to find this fleece at JoAnn Fabrics! It is also 1 yard in size.

Dad's Yankee's:

I made this Yankee's 2 yard version for my dad for his birthday back in November. Dad is usually pretty cold so I thought that he'd enjoy this blanket, and he has!

Purple Palm Fronds:

Originally I had purchased this 2 yards of material to make my mom a blanket for Christmas, however, she didn't particularly care for the "patter-in" on the fleece and it didn't match her living room, so I made it and gave it to a friend for Christmas. :)

"Materials needed:

Fabric needs to be at least 40 inches or wider (most are 54 inches)
Baby/Toddler - 1 to 1 1/2 yards (in both fabrics)
Child - 1 3/4 yards (in both fabrics)
Teen/Adult - 2 yards (in both fabrics)
Feel free to make your blanket (s) bigger for taller or bigger people

Things you need:

Two pieces of fleece the same size. Piece may be the same pattern, two different patterns, two plain colors or a pattern on one side and a plain color on the other.
Scissors (sharp ones)
Tape measure or ruler
one 4" x 4" piece of paper

No sew fleece blanket instructions:

Take your two pieces of fleece. Put one piece on top of the other lining up the edges so they are even. (one side will be the front and the other side will be the back of your blanket)
Trim off any selvage around the edges of your fleece (try not to cut in more than 2 inches) * Remember you need to try to cut straight, but it doesn't have to be.
Take your piece of 4"x4" paper lay it on the corner of your blanket. Then cut out the corner through both layers. Proceed to do this on all four corners.
Now you are ready to cut your fringes. Cut 4 inches into both fleeces at 1" wide. I found it easier to lay a tape measure across from the corner of the cut out corner to the other.
Your fringes don't need to be 1" exactly, just try to keep them the same size.(You don't want to have one fringe 1" and the next one 2".)
Proceed to cut 1" intervals on all four sides.
Starting on one side tie over hand knots (using one fringe from each fleece.) Tie these knots on every other fringe around the entire blanket.
Then flip the whole blanket over and tie the remaining knots until your blanket is complete. (This helps your knotted ends look perfect)
Some prefer to only tie one knot, but I like to double knot them. This helps them from coming untied especially in the wash."
